Shark Time in Chatham
August 6th, 2010When I had lunch at the Chatham Bars Inn Beach Grill the other day, the magical view to South Beach was perfect. It couldn't have been a more beautiful summer day...colorful beach umbrellas and fishing boats always bring me inspiration for my paintings. But, just up the street at the Chatham Lighthouse area, crowds of people were hoping to see the sharks that have been sighted, especially the Great White. Beautiful South Beach was closed to the public. Large groups of seals have attracted the sharks again and I guess it brings out that "Jaws" feeling in the many viewers to the area. CNN, MSNBC, Fox and Boston area stations have broadcast the story. The streets are more crowded than ever with tourists...more aggressive in their driving skills than I remember, too...so many people visited my workplace, Kahn Fine Antiques, the air seemed to be sucked out of the shop. But, in just a couple of weeks, the crowds will be greatly lessened and it will, again, be the quiet and peaceful village that I fell in love with...
